What To Expect
1. What is the process for Child Assessments
The very first step is to book an Initial Consultation with Dr Jill Woods - BOOK NOW
For children, Initial Consultation is with parents only as sensitive information is often shared regarding a child's differences and challenges. A thorough background and developmental history is taken and current concerns are discussed. Following consultation a summary report, outlining the clinical formulation and best-practice recommendations for assessment /intervention with costs is shared with parents for consideration.
Each assessment is individually tailored to your child or young person. As such prices can vary. Cocoon Clinical Psychology offers holistic, Bio-Psycho-Social neuro-affirmative profiling assessments as standard for each young person. This means that parents/guardian's do not need to feel overwhelmed in figuring out what assessment(s) or interventions their young person needs. A profiling assessment screens each child across all developmental areas using interview, observation and standardised tools. This ensures each young person's strengths, preferences and support needs are identified correctly, as part of a "whole brain" strengths-focused approach to identifying the underlying factors causing distress, challenges or delays to reaching full potential socially, emotionally or academically.
Assessments with Cocoon consist of 3 stages.
STAGE 1:
A: Parent Consultation with clinical formulation and recommended treatment plan.
B: Child Holistic screening assessment with comprehensive report - including tailored best-practice recommendations and treatment plans for home and school (€1,050 includes consultation fee). Involves neurodivergence screening (ADHD/autism/dyslexia etc) and review of social, emotional and behavioural development across home and school.
C: Parent Feedback Consultation: to review the screening findings and finalise the report. At this stage parents can make an informed decision about formal diagnostic testing or tailored neuroaffirmative therapy for their young person.
***Screening assessment for adults with report from €475 (ADHD/Autism) includes brief report and feedback consultation (comprehensive screening includes wider aspects neurodivergence €600).
OPTIONAL:
STAGE 2:
Formal diagnostic testing is only performed at Cocoon Clinical Psychology if it is strongly indicated (and/or desired) following a thorough screening evaluation in part 1 - eliminating the expensive and very common frustrations of "does not meet criteria", especially for parents, who are often left with no answers, more questions, no support for their family's evident challenges, and facing more waitlists. The cost of Part 1 screening above is deducted from formal assessment costs if booked within 3 months of screening.
STAGE 3:
Individually tailored neuroaffirmative Intervention packages are recommended following all screening/assessment where clinically indicated. Best-practice evidence-based resources and support are clearly outlined in each report and options discussed at feedback. Individualised therapy and family support plans are included in each assessment report - no obligation to continue therapy at Cocoon - your chlid's treatment plan can be shared with other professionals to guide neuroaffirmative treatment planning.

3. What does Cocoon offer that others may not?
Cocoon Clinical Psycholoy and Cocoon NeuroLogic Academy are owned and developed by Dr Jill Woods a multi-neurodivergent (AuDHDyslexic 2e) Charted Clinical Psychologist, and mother of neurodivergent young children. Cocoon caters for all neurotypes and is a safe, supportive, neurofaffirmative space for all children, teens, adults and overwhelmed parents. Cocoon is operated solely by Dr Jill Woods and assessment, support and treatment is provided personally to each family, no explaining things again and again to different clinicians or needing separate referrals and tests in different clinics; for mental health concerns, educational concerns, neurodivergence concerns, emotional/behavioural concerns. Your young person's wellbeing, as a complete and respected individual is at the heart of Cocoon services. I aspire for Cocoon to be the last stop for your family to find answers, understanding, and on-going support as your young person grows and develops. There may be a short wait at times for therapy services at Cocoon as Dr Jill Woods provides all services personally (6-12weeks max) - however a priority waitlist system is in place and a detailed home support plan is offered to all families after screening to ensure support begins as early as possible for each child.
1: Holistic "whole-brain" neuro-affirmative screening offered as stand-alone (or Part 1 of formal assessment). This ensures that an individual's full profile of strengths and support needs across all developmental areas are identified early and supported appropriately at home and school/work. Cocoon only offers formal diagnostic assessment when it is clearly indicated, reducing the need for multiple costly tests and appointments resulting often in "Criteria Not Met", which can be very frustrating and unhelpful for families.
2: Individually tailored best-practice and evidence-based recommendations for support and intervention across home and school/work environments as part of each written report - not generic "autism/ADHD" suggestions or books to read.
3: Child-friendly, easy read personal report for each child and guidance offered to support parents with informing their child of their diagnosis if and when they choose to do so.
3: Reduced cost (20% Discount) parenting support workshops/resources and self-directed educational and therapy courses via my website members area and Cocoon NeuroLogic Academy following assessment with Cocoon. [coming very soon and all past and current clients will be notified]
4: 10% Discount for Cocoon assessment/therapy clients in my Online store (sensory tools and therapy/parenting resources etc.) and on subscriptions to NeuroLogic Academy [coming very soon and all past and current clients will be notified]
